There are no requirements for nominating yourself to the steering committee, other than a willingness to get involved and passion for the network! A person is simply (re)nominated and seconded by other Swan members, a small form is filled in, and providing no objections are made they become/continue as a committee member. This year sees our largest steering committee in action, with a wide variance in age, geographical location, type of involvement with social work, knowledge and expertise. This allows new members to shadow the longer-serving members, and continue to energise the network.
The steering group primarily communicates via teleconferences, with at least one annual face-to-face meeting. Naturally, people attend as they are able and SWAN aims to be as flexible, inclusive and enabling as possible.
